Reflection Day 9 (Sensorial Day 1)
--- Discussion on Sensory Integration ---
1) Sensory Integration: the organization of senses for use.
- Gives us information about the physical conditions of our body and the environment around us (p. 5).
- The most important part of sensory processing (p. 6).
2) The sensory integration that occurs in moving, taking, and playing is the groundwork… for reading, writing, and good behavior (p. 8).
3) Fun is the child’s word for sensory integration (p. 8).
--- Discussion on Role of the Teacher ---
“She does not have need of words, or energy, or severity; but she must be able to make prudent observations, to assist a child by going up to, or withdrawing from, him/her, and by speaking or keeping silence in accordance with his/her needs” ( The Discovery of the Child p. 150).
A teacher should not be a lecturer but a guide.
A teacher must…
1) Be acquainted with the material (p. 151).
2) Place the child in contact with the material which also puts him/her in contact with the order (p. 152).
3) Make sure the students are absorbed in their work (Perfection) (p. 152).
4) Make a distinction between two different periods (p. 152).
The Three-Staged Lesson (p. 156-157)
1) The association of the sense perceptions with names.
2) The recognition of the object corresponding to the name.
3) Remembrance of the name corresponding to the object.
“The principle of free choice was thus added to that of repetition of the exercise” (The Secret of Childhood p. 121).
“…play is perhaps something of little importance which he undertakes for the lack of something better to do” (The Secret of Childhood p. 122).
Today, I recognized how important the three period lesson, order, silence, and repetition are for children. Because I already learned them in the practical life and the cosmic lesson.
